Petanque Club seeks players

20 Jan 2018 by John Swannick

Staplehurst Petanque Club are looking for new players for the coming 2018 season.

They are based at the Club and both playing and social members are welcome to join.

Petanque is a friendly and very social game enjoyed by both men and women in a very broad age range. There are currently 30 clubs in Kent and some 190 registered in England. All teams in the Kent league are based at either sports clubs or pubs.

League matches take place on Wednesday evenings and alternate home and away between end of April and mid September. Matches commence at 8pm and are usually complete by 10.00 – 10.30pm. After the match there is always time for a drink, and a hot or cold snack provided by the home team. Shared transport can be arranged for away games.

Petanque is a very easy game to learn and full tuition and insight to the rules will be provided by members of our current team. Playing equipment consists of just a set of 3 legal ‘boulle’ and these can be loaned from the club. If you have a computer with internet access then search on YouTube for ‘Petanque’ and you will find many videos of competitions and matches in progress. These provide a good insight into how the game is played.

Players in the ‘League’ need to be registered with the English Petanque Association (EPA) and a playing license is required….However, this can all be arranged once you are sure Petanque is the game for you! Practice sessions will be arranged as soon as weather permits, and these can be on weekday evenings or over a weekend.

So, if you are looking for a new fun interest for the coming summer….. something a little different on the leisurely sport front…. then why not give Petanque a try! If you feel you may be interested in playing, would like to try a game first or simply want some further information then please contact:
