Say hello to Staplehurst Cricket Academy

20 Mar 2017 by John Swannick

Staplehurst Cricket Academy is the new brand covering all our local junior cricket activity – in the Club, at local schools and other community outreach

INFORMATION & REGISTRATION SESSIONS
The 2017 junior cricket season begins in earnest straight after Easter.

With significant changes to the age and session structure of the Club’s junior cricket – including the introduction of CricketForGirls and All Stars Cricket – it is critical that parent(s) attend one of our information and registration sessions.

They will be held at the Club are on:

>Thursday 20 April 6.30-7.00pm*
>Thursday 20 April 7.00-7.30pm*
>Saturday 22 April 10.30-11.00am
>Saturday 22 April 11.00-11.30am

*please note the new midweek dates

These provide all the practical information you need to know to support your child(ren)’s cricket including costs, training times, teams, competitions, equipment needs, and much more. They also allow us to provide insights into our ethos, the way we do things and why, and the partnerships with parents we seek to build.

Please turn up for the start of one of the sessions and be prepared to stay for the 30 minutes duration, even if you think you may have heard it all before.

SUMMER TRAINING
Our cricket coaching for young people will start this year on Sunday 23rd April and run through 10 weeks to June 25th inclusive. It will again be split into two sessions based broadly on age group and capability. Under 9 and Under 11 sessions will run from 9.30-11.00am and Under 13 and Under 16 from 10.30-12 noon.

However, this year arrangements are complicated by the introduction of CricketForGirls and All Stars Cricket. As a result, it is more important than ever that least one parent/carer attend an information & registration session prior to the start of the training programme.

There will be coaching and inter-club activities including kwik cricket, six-a- side and T20 tournaments after the end of June and more information will be provided in due course.

CRICKETFORGIRLS
For the first time we will be running a dedicated girls programme in partnership with England international Lydia Greenway and her CricketForGirls team. They will deliver specialist coaching for girls aged 6 to 13 on Wednesday evenings from 26 April for 10 weeks between 5.00 and 6.00pm. Girls of all abilities, especially new to cricket, are welcome to these fun sessions.

5-8 YEAR OLDS AND ALL STARS CRICKET
The Club is the registered local centre for an exciting new England & Wales Cricket Board centrally administered programme aimed at 5-8 year-olds who have no previous cricket experience.

There is a big promotional campaign for All Stars Cricket – the ECB’s largest ever participation initiative – running through March and April.

There is a registration website for those wishing to book their child on All Stars Cricket but we strongly advise parents to attend one of our information and registration sessions before they do so. This is particularly important for parents with children in that age group who are already Club members and looking forward to more competitive cricket at ages 8 and 9.

TEAMS
This year we have again entered teams in Under-11, Under-13 and Under-16 leagues in the local Weald Cricket League and Cup competitions. We will also have some Under-9 tournaments against local opposition.
