Welcome to the first Club Digest of the New Year. I hope you all enjoyed a great Christmas and now looking forward to what 2017 has to bring.
For the Club, there is much to be excited about. In the short-term, there is Tea Ladies dinner – always a highlight – and the AGM on January 25th. Tennis coaching and the Friday adult social tennis night continue. As the days get longer we are on the countdown to the cricket season with both newly promoted Saturday teams relishing the challenge. Which means winter cricket training for all cricketers (aged 14+) takes on added importance.
Please put the AGM date in your diary. Formal notice will follow hot on the heels of this email. There will be some exciting announcements about new volunteering opportunities and how we intend recognising those who contribute to the Club’s success in so many different ways. Please have a think over the next week or two, talk to me or one of the other club officers, on how you could bring your skills to the party. It doesn’t need to be on a committee – nominations deadline for those is January 18 – but just a few informal hours here and there.
I am pleased to say that we finally have a date by which Maidstone Borough Council have confirmed they will make a decision on our planning application. Regrettably, that will not be before the AGM but shortly after. We are still hopeful of a positive outcome but may well need to galvanise the support across our membership we spoke about at the special meeting in the summer. 2017 is our big chance to transform the Club’s facilities and build our future.
Busy, busy, busy. And I know how difficult to keep up to date on all that is happening. We have realised for some time that most of you – typically over 80% – follow what we do on mobile only and email is not the best way of communicating. So I am delighted to announce the launch of the Club App for smartphones and tablets from IStore and PlayStore (don’t worry, technophobes, it’s available online too!). It will give you all the latest news and events, club information (including the current redbook), fixtures, results and live match updates all in one place.
